When we are faced with a very difficult situation we have a choice: we can either be resentful, and try to find somebody or something to blame for the hardships, or we can face the challenge and grow. A passion for life leads us out of the darkness and into the light. There is no point fighting against the challenges of life, or trying to avoid or deny them.
The Inner Voice speaks not in words but in the wordless language of the heart. It is like an oracle who only speaks the truth. It’s clarity comes from transcending all dualities.
There are times in our lives when too many voices seem to be pulling us this way and that. Our very confusion in such situations is a reminder to seek silence and centering within. Only then are we able to hear our truth.
Thus, finding the truth within, there is nothing more in this whole existence to find. Truth is functioning through us. When we open our eyes, it is truth opening the eyes. When we close our eyes, it is truth who is closing its eyes.
The veil of illusion that has been keeping us from perceiving reality as it is, is starting to burn away. The fire is not the heated fire of passion, but the cool flame of awareness.
The awareness that is growing is not the result of any conscious ‘doing’, nor is there a need to struggle to make something happen. Any sense that we’ve been groping in the dark is dissolving now, or will be dissolving soon.
This mind provides a sort of stupor. Burdened by the memories of the past, burdened by the projections of the future, we go on living – at the minimum, instead of living at the maximum. Thus our flame remains very dim.
By dropping corrosive thoughts, the flame rekindles, and arises. Life becomes a purely renewed flame without any smoke. This is what awareness is.
However, this is what happens by forgetting that the mind is meant to be a servant, and we allow it to run our lives. The head is filled with mechanisms, the mouth is ranting and raving, and the whole surrounding atmosphere is being polluted by this factory of arguments and cesspool of opinions. But wait – Isn’t the mind what makes us human, isn’t it’ the source of all progress, all great truths?
Meditate or pray for a moment by allowing thoughts to come out without any censorship or editing, it will be amazing the amount of rubbish that presents itself. This is the situation of our head: there is no space in which to live in! And all that rubbish and pollution keeps living in our head – it keeps us occupied, or distracted to the point it eventually evicts us, if we allow it.
What goes on inside our mind, is constantly present, it surrounds us like a fog. With this fog we can’t know reality; we are unable to attain spiritual perception. This fog must be burned off. And it is only with our decision to recognize it, that it will disappear. If we persist in clinging to it, it envelopes us and we lose our sense of direction, and not recognizing or knowing that the fog is not the least interested in us. We must remember this, lest we be gravely deceived.
Strength and Courage
A seed cannot know what is going to happen, the seed has never known the tree or flower. And the seed cannot even believe that it has the potentiality to become a strong tree or beautiful flower. Long is the journey, and it is always safer not to go on that journey because unknown is the path, nothing is guaranteed.
Nothing can be guaranteed. A thousand and one are the hazards of the journey, many are the pitfalls–and the seed is secure, hidden inside a hard core. But the seed tries, it makes an effort; it drops the hard shell which is its security, it starts moving.
Immediately the fight starts: the struggle with the soil, with the stones, with the rocks. And the seed was very hard and the sprout will be very, very soft and dangers will be many. There was no danger for the seed, the seed could have survived for millennia, but for the sprout many are the dangers. But the sprout starts towards the unknown, towards the sun, towards the source of light, not knowing where, not knowing why.
Great is the cross to be carried, but a dream possesses the seed and the seed moves. The same is the path for man. It is arduous. Much courage will be needed.
The innocence that comes from a deep experience of life is childlike, but not childish. The innocence of children is beautiful, but ignorant. It will be replaced by mistrust and doubt as the child grows and learns that the world can be a dangerous and threatening place. But the innocence of a life lived fully has a quality of wisdom and acceptance of the ever-changing wonder of life.
If we drop all that has been given by others, we will have a totally different quality to our being–innocence. This will be a crucifixion of the persona, the ego and its personality, and therein will be a resurrection of innocence; we will become a child again, a being reborn.
