A one-mile, 31-day quarantine has been placed around two McDonough subdivisions after tests on a fox captured in that area came back positive for rabies, Henry County Animal Care and Control officials have announced. Officials said two residents in the Summit and Highlands subdivisions were bitten by one or more foxes that approached them at their homes May 10. There were two other fox-related incidents involving a cat and a dog, according to officials. The subdivisions are near Jodeco Road and Ga. 42. “We believe this is the same fox involved in the attacks over the weekend, although we can’t say with certainty,” said Rabies Control Officer Vince Farah in a statement. “We are still on alert for wildlife in the area acting in an unusual manner and will continue to be vigilant.” This rabies alert follows three more that were issued in April. those incidents involved raccoons, officials said. It takes 30 days for rabies to incubate, officials said. Residents are asked to call animal care and control at 770-288-7387 if they notice their pets or wildlife acting aggressively, lethargic or dopey.
